Abstract:
A modified model for laser oscillation is suggested in which the field is regarded as a dissipative system and is described by a damped harmonic oscillator. The laser equations of motion are deduced using Dekker's quantization procedure for dissipative systems. It is found upon comparison with Lamb's reservoir theory that Lamb's results are the first order approximation of this model.
