Brownian diffusion of a small particle in a suspension

J.-P. Carton, E. Dubois-Violette and J. Prost

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1983, vol. 119, issue 1, 307-316

Abstract: The Brownian diffusion of a small particle in a fluid flowing through a random fixed bed of identical spheres is considered. To lowest order in the volume fraction φ of the suspension, the diffusion constant is shown to be renormalized in the direction transverse to the velocity as D⊥ = D(1+3(φ2)12) provided the velocity is large enough.
