Critical properties of the modified Ginzburg-Landau model for the nematic to smectic a phase transition

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1984, vol. 125, issue 2, 412-424
Abstract:
Critical properties of the nematic to smectic A phase transition were described a decade ago by de Gennes in terms of the so-called helium analogy. The aim of the present paper is to show how the de Gennes results can be modified to allow for a better description of the critical region.
