Abstract:
The static dielectric constant of dipolar hard discs is calculated using the prescription developed by DeLeeuw, Perram and Smith. The dependence of the dielectric constant on boundary conditions is investigated, and we find that for systems of moderate size (N≈100) the simulated dielectric constant is almost independent of boundary effects. The results indicate that the mean spherical approximation gives excellent values of the dielectric constant in 2 dimensions.
