Statistical quasi-particles and the thermodynamics of hot dense matter

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1985, vol. 131, issue 3, 465-484

Abstract: A single-particle description of a relativistic fluid, such as the quark-gluon plasma, is formulated as an extension of the Landau theory of Fermi liquids. By requiring consistency with conservation laws and irreversible thermodynamics, a transport theory appropriate to the hydrodynamic regime is set up. Expressions for the thermodynamic densities and the irreversible flows are found in terms of the quasi-particle spectral function and interaction function. The former is the first, and the latter the second variation of the grand potential with respect to the one-particle distribution functions. A recently proposed thermodynamic model for the quark-hadron phase transition is discussed in this context.
