Photodetection and causality II

Abstract:
We continue in this paper the investigation of the link between the measurement process in quantum mechanics and causality associated with a finite velocity of field propagation. We focalize on the multiple photodetection and we prove that the surmise of our previous paper is indeed confirmed: when multiple measurements are involved, quantum mechanics violates causality at the macroscopic level. We illustrate how such a paradox disappears by going to a semigroup description. The evolution of the density matrix is then described in terms of a non-factorizable and non-unitary operator, in contrast with the solution of the Liouville-von Neumann equation.
