Abstract:
The phase equilibria of the system neon-xenon have been determined up to 20 kbar. In this paper, special attention has been paid to the metastable phases and the equilibria involving a solid phase. The three-phase line fluid-fluid-solid has been studied up to its intersection with the critical line and the critical line has been investigated up to 3 kbar into the metastable region. It is pointed out that under certain conditions a metastable homogeneous mixture does not separate into the stable solid-fluid-equilibrium, as would be expected, but that a metastable fluid-fluid equilibrium will be established. The solidification pressure of the system has been determined for five compositions at a few temperatures.
