Abstract:
The XPS spectra from the core level of an intermediate valence impurity in the necklace of a finite number (from one to six) of atoms are considered. We discuss the changes in the system caused by the core hole which is created in the photoemission process, comparing the average numbers of f-electrons before and after the experiment. The dependence of the shape of the core spectra on the electron-plasmon coupling λ is considered as well. Inclusion of the larger number of host atoms in the necklace leads to quantitative changes in the spectra only. The qualitative changes are not observed in practice.
