Abstract:
A theory of nonequilibrium states of simple classical fluids on the basis of a generalization of the Bogoliubov functional hypothesis is constructed. A hierarchy of kinds of reduced descriptions of the system with the help of hydrodynamic variables and their fluctuations is discussed. Simple nonlinear hydrodynamics and linear fluctuation hydrodynamics are studied in detail. Some general results concerning the structure of the nonequilibrium distribution function of the system at long times are deduced. General expressions for nonequilibrium and equilibrium time correlation functions are derived.
