Abstract:
The theory of propagation of Mössbauer gamma-radiation through a medium containing gamma-resonant nuclei is systematically revisited in terms of statistical distribution functions and their integrals. Some new characteristics of the transmitted and the absorbed radiation are introduced as successive moments of the corresponding probability distributions in both the time and the frequency domain, in an attempt to achieve a more detailed and visible description of the possible “mechanisms” of gamma-resonance interaction.
