The Hopf bifurcation in the Lorenz model by the 2-timing method

G. Tsarouhas and J. Pade

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1986, vol. 138, issue 3, 507-517

Abstract: We obtain a relatively compact exact expression for the Hopf radius R as a function of the Lorenz parameters σ and b. Numerical evaluation of R = R(σ, b) together with a simple, asymptotic expression for R give clear evidence that the bifurcation is subcritical always in the physical parameter range.
