The two-dimensional coulomb gas: A fixed ion model and the dynamic characterization of the dielectric-plasma transition

Abstract:
We show how the dielectric-plasma transition in the two-dimensional Coulomb gas, suitably mapped onto a delocalization transition by fixing one species of charges on a triangular lattice, can be characterized by a number of static and dynamic “diagnostics”. The influence of the “ionization” equilibrium on the collective charge oscillation (plasmon) mode is investigated by molecular dynamics simulations.
