High-temperature expansions in continuum quantum field theory

K. Dietz and Th. Millack

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1987, vol. 141, issue 1, 125-139

Abstract: High-temperature or, equivalently, strong coupling expansions are established by applying heat-kernel techniques to the Green's functional of the Schrödinger picture of quantum field theory. The trace of the Green's functional is considered and a high-temperature expansion for the partition function is derived. It is shown that a simple, physically motivated rescaling of parameters leads to well-defined expressions. A generalized Thomas-Fermi expansion for the density of states is finally obtained.
