Abstract:
A general method for the calculation of the polarizability of a truncated spherical particle on a substrate is developed, assuming that this particle is much smaller than the wavelength of light. The relation between the polarizability and the optical properties of an assembly of such particles is discussed. The method is applied to the special cases of a sphere, hemisphere and thin spherical cap on a substrate.
