Abstract:
The cluster effective-field approximation was proposed as a useful approximation for the study of frustrated Ising models. In order to examine its usefulness, the Ising model with frustration on the centred square lattice is studied in the square effective-field approximation, and the results are compared with those in the pair and in the square approximation and with the exact results. The study is made in the framework of the cluster variation method.
