Abstract: The existence of superconductivity effects in one-dimensional metallic structures was analysed in this paper. A new method of solving the gap equation was applied. Due to the homogeneity of this equation the results essentially depend on the choice of a damping parameter. It was shown that, independent on the choice of the damping parameter, the gap is negligible for k close to kF and consequently the superconductive effects are not observable. BCS ideas applied to the one-dimensional structures lead to the same conclusion. It was found that one specific choice of damping parameter leads to the appearance of a low lying gap which, in principle, can cause the lowering of the Fermi momentum. In this case, even the high temperature superconductivity could be expected. A number of doubts, connected with this optimistic result, was discussed. The full absence of the energy gap in one-dimensional metallic structures can be considered as the most realistic solution of the gap-equation in the opinion of authors. This solution is obtained for all values of the damping parameter which are less than one particular boundary value.
