Brownian motion and creeping flow on the Smoluchowski time scale

B.U. Felderhof

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1987, vol. 147, issue 1, 203-218

Abstract: We consider a suspension of spherical particles Brownian motion in an incompressible fluid. On the basis of the Fokker-Planck equation we derive the average equations for the hydrodynamic variables. We discuss their relation to the hydrodynamic equations for the suspension valid on the Smoluchowski time scale. In particular we derive an expression for the stress tensor valid on this time scale.
