Ground states of a frustrated Ising model with one-, two- and three-body interactions

Abstract:
The “method of plaquettes” is used to examine the T = 0 solutions of an Ising model, first proposed by Widom, which includes one-, two- and three-body interactions. As in a previous paper, phases are classified as 1-, 2-, …, or n-magnetization states. The presence of odd interaction terms in the Hamiltonian ensures that the general ground state solutions be 2-magnetization phases in the physically relevant region for which nearest-neighbor couplings are ferromagnetic. The ground state phase diagram is illustrated as well as the various phase structures.
