Abstract:
In a fluid in elongational flow the diffusion of tagged particles differs from the same process in an equilibrium fluid. The diffusion coefficient becomes direction, frequency, wave vector and elongation rate dependent. In the context of nonequilibrium fluctuating hydrodynamics explicit expressions are derived for small elongation rates. The relation to earlier work on Brownian motion in elongational flow is discussed.
