Abstract:
The principles involved in pressure tuning spectroscopy of electronic energy levels are briefly reviewed. To illustrate the power and versatility of this tool two examples each of characterization of electronic excitations and processes, critical tests of theories, and electronic transitions are presented. The examples are selected to illustrate the breadth of applicability of the technique.
