Abstract:
We have measured the Hall conductivity and the magnetoconductivity on the metallic side of the metal insulator transition (MIT) in a three dimensional (3D) percolating system, namely the metal rare gas mixture Sn:Ar. The Hall constant RH diverges as RH ∝ (ν − νc)−g with the critical volume fraction νc = 0.26 ± 0.01 and the critical exponent g = 0.49 ± 0.07. The magnetoconductivity Δσ scales as −Δσ ∝ (ν − νc)t′ with critical exponent t′ = 1.9 ± 0.15, which is slightly larger than the conductivity exponent t = 1.6 ± 0.1. The experimental value of g agrees quite well with the value obtained by Monte Carlo simulation, whereas the observed difference between t and t′ is in contradiction to theory.
