Abstract:
The evolution of weakly coupled scalar fields in the early universe is discussed. Such fields will be out of thermal equilibrium, and their initial distribution will be inhomogeneous. We study the classical evolution in a pre-inflationary radiation dominated universe and discuss under which conditions the fields dynamically relax to configurations which gave inflation.
