Abstract:
The imaginary part of the polarizability coefficient of dielectrics in two limiting cases, E0 ⪡ √ħc ω2/c2 and E0 ⪢ √ ħc ω2/c2, where E0 is the electric field amplitude, ω is the frequency, c is speed of light, has been calculated in terms of the microscopic approach. The diffusion equation describing the attenuation of radiation as it passes through a “gas” of small particles of radius R ⪢ λ, where λ is wave length, is derived. The probability of light scattering at dislocation loops has been calculated and experimental results explained on its basis.
