Abstract:
We present the results of a detailed a statistical mechanical study of the thermodynamical properties and pair correlations for smectic liquid crystals composed of ellipsoidal molecules interacting through an angle-dependent nonseparable pair potential. The characteristics of liquid crystals are expressed in terms of mean force potentials, which satisfy a nonlinear integral equation. This equation is solved numerically.
