Exact curvature energies of charged membranes of arbitrary shapes

Bertrand Duplantier

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1990, vol. 168, issue 1, 179-197

Abstract: We consider charged (and possibly conducting) membranes of arbitrary shapes immersed in an ionic solution. The electrostatic contribution to their free energy is exactly expressed as a convergent multiple scattering expansion. This allows the evaluation of the universal spontaneous, scalar and Gaussian curvature contributions to the membrane free energy. Topological effects are thus included.
