Theory of turbulent shear flow

Jürgen Piest

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1990, vol. 168, issue 3, 966-982

Abstract: The paper deals with the analytical calculation of a coefficient function which is part of a formula for the turbulent friction force derived in a previous article. The function contains a space-time triple correlation of projected phase space variables in thermodynamic equilibrium. A relation to the unprojected correlation of the momentum density is derived; the latter is calculated with the aid of Martin-Siggia-Rose perturbation theory, and the Kawasaki nonlinear Langevin equation as a starting point. Two orders of the perturbation series are retained. Numerical calculation of the turbulent friction force for a special flow situation with the aid of these formulas will be described in a forthcoming paper.
