A characteristic length scale for the hydrodynamic regime of binary gas mixtures

G.H. Wegdam and H.M. Schaink

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1990, vol. 169, issue 3, 353-364

Abstract: New results of light scattering experiments on helium/xenon gas mixtures are presented. These results allow for an accurate determination of the range of wavevectors for which the hydrodynamic theory gives a proper description of the evolution of the fluctuations. It is shown that only one length scale is sufficient to characterize the hydrodynamic wavevector regime. This length scale is only slightly dependent on the composition of the mixture.
