Abstract:
A cluster transfer-matrix method convenient for the calculation of spatially modulated structures of a wide class of lattice-gas modules is developed. The method formulates the problem of calculation of the partition function in terms of nonlinear mapping of effective multi-site fields. It is applied to a lattice-gas model qualitatively describing the system of oxygen atoms in the basal planes of high-temperature superconductors. The properties of an incommensurate structure occurring at intermediate temperatures are discussed in detail.
