The statistical mechanics of interacting strings

E. Copeland, D. Haws, S. Holbraad and R. Rivers

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1991, vol. 179, issue 3, 507-530

Abstract: As part of a general study of phase transitions induced by string-like objects, the effects of long-range self-interactions and mutual interactions are considered. The conditions for first-order transitions are established, exemplified by a simple model for dislocation melting.
