Note on the kinetic theory approach to irreversible thermodynamics of radiation and matter

Abstract:
The equivalent form for the entropy balance equation was derived in the paper entitled: Kinetic theory approach to irreversible thermodynamics of radiation and matter [Physica A 180 (1992) 65]. The Boltzmann gas analog of this equation gives a local form for the H theorem, but in its present form it does not appear to do so. In this note it is shown that the equivalent form can be recast into an even simpler form that is formally in the same form as the one for classical Boltzmann gases. Thus, the new form obtained is shown to be a local H theorem for the system of radiation and matter considered, namely, a quantum system.
