Abstract:
Oxygen ordering in the basal plane of the YBa2Cu3O6 + 2c system can be described in terms of the two-dimensional Ising model with asymmetric next-nearest-neighbor interactions. The phase diagram is calculated by means of a cluster variation method, using the values of interaction energies which follow from the linear muffin-tin orbital (LMTO) method, and compared with previous known results. The low-temperature structure is examined and it is found that O-Cu-O chains consist of oxygen occupied and uncopied segments. The average number of oxygen atoms in oxygen occupied segments is calculated as a function of temperature T and concentration c.
