To the theory of the linear magnetic permeability of a medium

Abstract: The problem arising due to the ambiguity in the definitions of the magnetic permeability of a medium, is discussed. A definition of the magnetic permeability as the ratio of the magnetic field in a medium to the external magnetic field, is proposed. By using the theory of linear response, the relation between the magnetic constant of a medium and the photon distribution function was established. The static magnetic permeability in the classical limit is shown to be equal to unity. In the non-relativistic limit, the general diagram expansions over the interparticle interaction has been considered. Expressions for the magnetic permeability for a system of non-interacting particles, are proposed including the degenerate Bose gas.
