Equilibrium polymerization with annealed crosslinks

Abstract: We show that the magnetic n-vector model with two- and four-spin interactions in the limit when n→0 is equivalent to an equilibrium polymerization model with annealed crosslinks between chains. In the mean field solution, the polymerization transition is of first order for sufficiently high values of the four-spin interaction, a tricritical point being present in the phase diagram. This feature is also present in the solutions of the model on the Bethe and Husimi lattices. In the particular case of the Husimi lattice with coordination number equal to four, a qualitatively different phase diagram is obtained, with two ordered phases, a critical endpoint and a tricritical point. Finally, the model is solved on the square lattice in the particular case of vanishing two-spin interactions, and, as expected, a first order transition is observed.
