Reminiscence of the Van Hove singularity in the specific heat of disordered systems

Stefanie Russ

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1992, vol. 191, issue 1, 335-338

Abstract: The influence of the Van Hove singularity, mediating the crossover between the phonon and the fraction regime, on the specific heat of disordered lattices, is discussed. Two cases are considered, first, the model of a two-component random network and, second, the case of a silica aerogel. It is suggested that in silica aerogels the reminiscence of the Van Hove singularity should occur close to the crossover frequency ωξ.
