Abstract: We report neutron time-of-flight data from BAF4, a commercial glass, both below and above its glass transition temperature of 813 K. As in vitreous silica, the low-frequency inelastic scattering shows the structure factor of coupled SiO4-tetrahedra librations. Above the glass transition, the scattering between elastic line and boson peak rises drastically, as in many other substances. The structure factor of this additional fast motion is again very similar to the one observed at lower temperatures, indicating similar eigenvectors for the soft modes in the glassy phase and the fast relaxations in the undercooled liquid.
