Abstract:
A molecular dynamics simulation is presented which investigates vibrational dynamics in a simple monatomic model of a glassy state possessing pronounced icosahedral local order similar to that of metallic glasses. Both the dynamical structure factor of that model and its density of states reveal the pattern of phonon behavior distinctly different from what has been observed in other simulated amorphous systems as well as in laboratory experiments on metallic glasses.
