Abstract:
A classical dynamics study of the interaction between an absorbate and an infrared laser field is presented. The resonance overlap criterion is found to provide reasonable estimates of the transition of the adsorbate motion from the quasi-periodic to the chaotic regime when compared with numerical calculations. Out study shows that exciting the system with a second laser will lower the threshold intensity for the laser desorption process, and the resonance overlap criterion provides an explanation of this observation.
