Abstract:
In this paper, we study the probe absorption profile of a two-level system subjected to an arbitrary strong pump field. By using a three-component solution developed earlier, we find that the lineshape can be understood in terms of an induced Rabi frequency, which is dominated by the dephasing-induced effect when the pump intensity is in the intermediate regime or below, and by the field-induced effect when the pump is strong. With the assumption of a large inhomogeneous broadening, we calculate the holewidth as a function of the pump intensity. We find, quite unexpectedly, that the holewidth, even in a strongly dephased system, approaches the pump Rabi frequency at the high pump intensity limit.
