Abstract:
The cluster-variation method (CVM) is used to investigate the phase diagram of the Blume-Emery-Griffiths (BEG) model on the triangular lattice. New topologies of the phase diagrams for K|J| < -1 including three antiquadrupolar phases (in the ferromagnetic case; J> 0) and antiquadrupolar and ferrimagnetic phases (in the antiferromagnetic case; J < 0) are obtained. No previously reported reentrant phenomenon is found. Good accuracy of CVM is confirmed in comparison with the results of the analytic and Monte Carlo calculations.
