Abstract:
We discuss the macroscopic behaviour of nematic liquid crystalline side-chain elastomers. These systems are particularly interesting from a macroscopic point of view since they allow the occurence of relative rotations between the nematic director and the permanent elastomeric network. Both the purely hydrodynamic as well as the electrohydrodynamic equations are presented. The differences and the similarities to the macroscopic behaviour of nematic liquid crystalline side-chain polymers are clarified.
