p-germanium links physical and dynamical phase transitions

Y.D. Marinakis

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1994, vol. 209, issue 3, 301-308

Abstract: The electrical current recorded in a p-germanium crystal experiencing avalanche breakdown is shown to link physical phase transitions with dynamical phase transitions. This link provides a means to illustrate exactly what a dynamical phase transition looks like. The link is demonstrated by showing the existence of phase transition indicia in multifractal spectra that were computed from a simulation of the current time series for such a breakdown.
