Shear thinning of a system of membranes in a fluid

Y. Navot

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1994, vol. 210, issue 1, 139-145

Abstract: The steady state shape of a membrane in shear flow is considered numerically beyond the regime of small deformations. The effective viscosity of a dilute system of membranes immersed in a liquid is calculated. The decrease in the effective viscosity as a function of the shear rate (shear thinning) is demonstrated explicitly.
