Abstract:
We describe light scattering measurements of the dynamic behavior of a binary mixture and a liquid crystal near their respective phase transitions. These measurements and others are compared with two theoretical approaches to the problem. In both systems, the porous medium causes glass-like behavior, in that broad spectrum of relaxation time appears. A qualitative explanation for the observations is yet to be found.
