Formation of fractal structures by aggregation of anisometric iron (III) hydroxide particles

Abstract: Coagulation of anisometric iron (III) hydroxide sols has been studied by dynamic light scattering, TEM and ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering. The anisometry of rod-like individual colloidal particles can be characterised with a mean aspect ratio of 10. It was established for the first time, that the aggregates formed by coagulation of anisometric particles show definite fractal structure with a mass fractal dimension of 1.95 ± 0.05.
