Model study of fracture propagation — solutions of steady-state propagation and their stability

Abstract: We describe our ongoing study of fracture propagation. We are interested in solutions of steady-state fracture propagation and their stability. The stability problem is of particular interest, as aroused by some recent experiments. A simple one-dimensional friction model is used for illustration.
