Abstract:
We obtain the equation of state for a charged colloidal solution, which is represented by a collection of sticky charged hard spheres. The mean spherical approximation (MSA) is used for the ionic part, and the Percus-Yevick (PYA) approximation is used for the sticky part. Explicit expressions are obtained for the pressure in terms of a sticky parameter λ and a screening parameter γ. The pressure diagram indicates a first order phase transition characteristics of colloids.
