Abstract:
We use a lattice Boltzmann scheme to study the spinodal decomposition of a simple binary mixture and of a structured fluid with lamellar order. In the case of the binary mixture hydrodynamic effects change the growth exponent from the diffusive value z=13 to z = 23. For a lamellar fluid hydrodynamic modes are essential for the fluid to avoid frozen metastable configurations and reach the correct equilibrium state.
