Second-harmonic generation from disordered 1D chains of polarizable spheres

J. Cruz, E. Jonguitud and Bernardo S. Mendoza

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1997, vol. 241, issue 1, 12-16

Abstract: To investigate the effects of disorder in surface second-harmonic generation (SHG), we consider a 1D disordered chain of polarizable spheres embedded on an inert substrate. Each sphere is identical to the other and responds non-linearly to the local field and to its gradient, like an isotropic harmonic oscillator. The effective non-linear polarization of the chain is ensemble averaged over different algorithms of the disorder and their consequences in the SHG yield are presented and discussed.
