Abstract:
In this paper we generalize the definition of the complete set of gross variables for a many-body system and express it in terms of an inference principle that we called the “Principle of Observational Compatibility”. The advantage of this procedure is that we can obtain from this principle the basic postulates of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics introduced by Green [1]. We also discuss the connection between Green's ideas and information theory.
