Chromosome structure and gene regulation

Jonathan Widom

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1997, vol. 244, issue 1, 497-509

Abstract: The packaging of DNA in chromosomes presents obstacles to the action of gene regulatory proteins and polymerases on their natural chromatin substrates. We critically assess previously existing ideas for how these obstacles may be overcome, and then summarize a recently proposed model and discuss its implications.
